New Guidelines Issued for Combining HIV, Seizure Meds news

WEDNESDAY, Jan. 4 (HealthDay News) — Physicians need to take care when prescribing seizure medication to HIV/AIDS patients to prevent harmful interactions between drugs, experts warn.

The cautionary note from the American Academy of Neurology (AAN) has led to the issuance of a new AAN guideline, which was developed in consultation with the International League Against Epilepsy.

“It is important that patients know exactly which drugs they are taking and provide that information to all prescribing health care providers caring for them,” lead guideline author Dr. Gretchen L.

New B. Toys at Target!

I’m sure I’ve mentioned this before, but I am a little obsessed with Target. I’m there at least once a week for all of the things I “need” for around the home. Yes, I really did need those plum argyle tights last week.

All kidding aside, I am constantly impressed by the quality brands offered at Target including one of my favorite toy brands, B. Toys. I’m a HUGE fan of the whimsical and creative play items. Not only are these toys pleasing to look at, but I love that the packaging is made from recycled materials and is even reusable around the house. Double bonus!

Sleep disorders common in cops: study

A survey from the United States and Canada found 40 percent of police officers had symptoms of a sleep disorder, including sleep apnea and insomnia.

Officers who screened positive for those disorders were also more likely to be burnt out, depressed or have an anxiety disorder. And over the next two years, they committed more administrative errors and safety violations and were more prone to falling asleep at the wheel than sound sleepers.

In general we have this cultural attitude of, sleep is for the weak, said Dr. Michael Grandner, from the Center for Sleep and Circadian Neurobiology at the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia.
