Working with Resistance Bands

When it comes to getting a good workout, some contraptions and props are more useful than others.  Resistance or simply exercise bands are some of the better options as they require relatively little investment, are tiny and easy to store, and can help get you into shape.

Resistance bands can be used in a number of ways to improve strength, tone and overall physique.  Below are just a few of the many exercises you can do with resistance bands.

1.Chest Press:  Begin by wrapping your band around a sturdy object near you at approximately chest level.  Then take each end of the bands in your hands with elbows bent.  Keep forearms parallel to the floor and begin pressing your arms outwards as a standard chest press.  You can also do one arm at a time for an alternating chest press exercise.2.Lateral Pulls:  Sitting on a backless chair, bench or exercise ball, take your band with both hands towards the middle and position it overhead.  Now pull outwards bringing the elbows towards the ribs as you pull.  You can adjust the tension simply by moving your hands outwards or inwards along the band.3.Overhead press:  In a standing position or sitting on a bench or exercise ball, place the centre of your band under your feet.  Now take each end of the band in your hands and press upwards.  Wrists should be straight and your core should be engaged.  Pull up until your arms are overhead and the lower back down.4.Bicep Curls:  Again in a standing position and with your feet over the centre section of the band, take each end of the band in opposing hands.  Now in a standard bicep curl position, pull band upwards towards your chest flexing biceps.  Again lower or raise hand along the band in order to increase or decrease resistance.When it comes to flexibility, variety and ease, resistance bands are top of the charts for exercise equipment.  These easy to use props are an excellent investment especially as an aid to home workouts.  They can be used in a host of different ways and the intensity of each move is easily adjustable to your individual strength and needs.  For a small investment these handy gadgets offer a huge return.
