Choosing your Yoga Essentials
When beginning any new fitness activity there may be some essentials that you will need to purchase before beginning. If you are new to yoga you will want to consider some of the following points before choosing the kind of equipment and attire you will need. Below are some of the considerations those new to yoga should look at before purchasing any yoga supplies.
Choosing a yoga mat-Yoga mats are essential pieces to any yoga practice. While many yoga studios rent out mats, purchasing your own is really a much better idea, especially if you are planning on engaging in yoga practice on a regular or semi-regular basis. Yoga mats come in different shapes and consistencies so choosing the right one for you can depend on a couple of factors.First off, what kind of yoga are you planning on engaging in? The most basic mats are designed for Hatha yoga, a yoga that is somewhat slower than other varieties. These mats come in a variety of sizes and colours so chose one depending on your taste. If you are planning on engaging in a more intense yoga like Ashtanga yoga you will want to look for a more durable mat with better padding. Also if you are planning on practicing every day, you would do well to spend a little more and buy a better quality mat. Standard mats are usually at least 4 mm thick. Some yogis who practice power yoga or Ashtanga actually use a rug instead of a mat, because of the extent of perspiration that this kind of yoga entails. You probably won’t need this though so stick with the regular mats. Recently some people have voiced concern because sticky yoga mats use a substance that goes into landfills and that has also been linked with cancer called PVC or polyvinyl chloride. There are now mats that are made without this substance and that are therefore more environmentally friendly, so choose these when possible.A good yoga mat should last you a while so make sure you do your research and invest wisely. They can be expensive at times, but if you decide to become a regular yoga practitioner the expense is well worth it.
