Best Outdoor Training Programs

With the beautiful summer weather approaching, it might be time to take your regular fitness routine out of doors.  Not only will this give you all the benefits of a little vitamin D, but it will also allow to you mix up a tired routine. The best outdoor training regimen is really one that you can stick to and that you find pleasurable.  For everyone this may vary a little, but below are some suggestions for using the great outdoors to boost your fitness level and your mood.Trail Running:  trail running is a great way to give your regular running routine a little boost.  Trail running works your cardiovascular system but it can also work other parts as well.  When running over rugged terrain you tend to utilize your core more than you would on the treadmill or even on a smoother outdoor trail.  You are also more likely to work your leg muscles in different ways as your body learns to deal with varying paths and levels. The other advantage of trail running is that there tends to be a greater variation in terms of intensity.  Running uphill is a natural occurrence in trail running.  These hills can add terrific, natural interval training to your workout.  You can take advantage of the flatter areas to boost your speed and then slow it down a little as you head up the steeper areas.  Both aspects can prove challenging and both are key to a good workout.Outdoor Props:  using outdoor props is another great way to take your workout outside and still get the benefits of strength training or stability work.  Park benches for instance provide a great stopping point.  Use the benches to perform some standing push ups, do some stretches or do some triceps presses.  Outdoor stairs also provide a great workout.  Instead of hitting the Stairmaster at your local gym you can head to an outdoor spot with stairs like an outdoor arena.  The stairs heading up the bleachers are great for really pushing yourself.  Just be careful on your way down!  Use the Grass:  When you’re finished working yourself to the max, lay back and enjoy stretching out on the grass.  You can also use this plush terrain for fitting in some sit-ups or doing a few sun salutations.  There’s really nothing like getting into a warrior 3 position while looking out onto a beautiful morning sun, or majestic mountain view.  Outdoor workouts provide inspiration and new challenges for you mind and body.  By taking your workout outside you’ll be forced to be more creative and to find new ways of pushing yourself.  Outdoor workouts are a great way to stay in shape and soak up the summer sunshine.
